HAMMERS seeks art for ‘08 calendar

The HAMMERS emergency home repair program is seeking entries from artists for its 2008 “Images of Home” limited edition fund-raising calendar. Thirteen works will be chosen, one for each month plus the cover of the 8 1/2″ x 11″ calendar. Entries are due Sept. 8.

Antiquity developer pledges changes

The developer of the 1,000-unit Antiquity Cornelius project at the end of South Street has agreed to speed up sidewalk construction and adjust the project’s marketing materials, after being contacted by Davidson’s planning director.

Ada Jenkins hires a new director

Jay Laurens, the former administrator of a Rowan County non-profit organization, has been hired as the new executive director of the Ada Jenkins Center. He starts work Aug. 1, taking over from Bill Johnson, who is retiring at age 65.

Projects survive school bond cuts

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board Tuesday night approved a scaled-down $516 million bond package for school construction and renovations in a 7-2 vote. Money for revovations at Davidson IB Middle School on South Street survived the cuts, as did money for a new high school on Bailey Road in Cornelius.
