Your support makes community radio possible.

Underwriting with Kauai Community Radio is a unique way for your business or organization to reach KKCR’s broad spectrum of listeners. On-air at 90.9FM & 91.9FM and online at www.kkcr.org.

What is Underwriting?

Underwriting messages are not commercials. Underwriting is the name the FCC has given to announcements that recognize contributions to public radio from businesses and organizations.

Advertising Vs. Underwriting:

  • Underwriting offers a concise message with no more than 30 words. Announcements are succinct and factual. Avoiding comparisons or discussion of prices brings integrity to an underwriting message. (Specifics can be found with our underwriting guidelines and our underwriting coordinator is also available to help you formulate your announcement.)

  • Underwriting offers potency to your business message. Commercial radio stations air up to 18 minutes of advertisements per hour. Information can be lost in a clutter of commercials and listeners are prone to tune out the message or change the station. KKCR airs no more than three underwriters per hour, using approximately two minutes of airtime, which means your message is more likely to be heard by listeners.

  • Underwriting on Kauai Community Radio makes a statement about your business. An L.K. Liebold survey found 80% of public radio listeners said they held a more positive image of a company that supported public radio. It also reported that 70% of those polled said that a company’s support of public radio had a positive influence on their decision to do business with that company.

  • Community Radio listeners are conscientious and loyal. Listeners of KKCR voluntarily donate their money to support community radio programming. KKCR’s “ohana” is a broad base of supporters who donate repeatedly to the station. Targeting an audience with this kind of thoughtful loyalty can have great benefits for your business.

  • KKCR is a 501-c3 non-profit organization. Use your marketing dollars to support one of your local Community non-profit organizations.
